Abstract: IT managers play a critical role in any DevOps transformation. The 2015 State of Devops Report enumerates proven ways that IT managers can help their teams win. Executives seem to understand the value of emerging practices in IT Operations, such as Lean and DevOps, and individual contributors surely benefit from less midnight alerts and increased salary. Why then do middle managers often seem out of step with the organization’s priorities and initiatives? Is it really a misaligned middle or a lack of an enterprise champion? Does the ever-revolving door of buzzwords burn out managers? Maybe it's an unwillingness to change -- or perhaps managers are stumbling around in a broken system.
Repairing misalignment may be time consuming, but the rewards are huge. In this talk, Dominica DeGrandis will share her experiences with specific examples from enterprises to help you identify the misaligned middle issues within your organization. There will be some audience participation so be prepared with your experiences. Participants will leave with a new perspective, exercises to improve alignment across their IT organization, and real world examples to model.
